Volunteering Scotland Report - The report delves into the social impact of volunteering in Scotland. Weekly formal volunteering creates an average social value of £1,000 per person per year (about £19.23 per week) and when including the economic value of time spent volunteering (estimated at £1.8 billion), the total contribution is £2.3 billion. The usual benefits to volunteers are reiterated such as improved mental health. It is great to see yet more positive data proving what we already know, volunteering is so important!!

Significant decline in volunteering - We have all been feeling it and the above report showed it. In Scotland between 2019 and 2023, formal participation rates fell from 26% to 18%, a drop of over 335,000 volunteers. This article covers it in more detail.

RVS Matching Platform - RVS are building a volunteer matching platform. Funded by the postcode lottery and aimed at reversing the decline in volunteer participation. A noble aim and one close to our heart! Sure we have our own marketplace 😋 But more volunteering is all we want so we are big supporters!! We have had very positive conversations with RVS and will be seeking to integrate Volunteero with the platform whenever that is made feasible by RVS. Check out the launch press release here.

Nerd corner 🤓

Perplexity AI - I think of it as ChatGPT but for stats. So you may use GPT to get you started on a blog post or your wedding vows (not recommended) but Perplexity should be your go to for questions like “How many people volunteer in the UK” or “How have volunteering rates changed”

Google Sheets AI - This is wild and a bit of a game changer. So let’s say you aren’t a total excel nerd and recite VLOOKUP formulas in your dreams. This is for you!

Google has been slowly introducing AI features into it’s suite (Microsoft is doing much the same) but this one I have found to be the best yet. You can basically ask the AI to do something for you in “human speak” and it does it. No need to learn formulas and troubleshoot them. I highly recommend checking out this video to learn more.
